Idolatry is anything which takes the place of God as your primary focus of fear and reverence— it is the worship of someone or something other than God, as though that person or thing were God.

Today, for a large percentage of Americans, politics is their idol— It has become one of the nation’s endless forms of false religion.

Many who have declared allegiance to its democratic or republican denominations, passionately attempt to persuade others to “step into the light” as it were, and worship at their respective altars.

Although this behavior is natural to the unbelieving world, Idolatry is so strongly condemned by God that when He established the nation of Israel to be set apart as His people in the world, He saw fit to write it in stone as the first of the Ten Commandments:
“You shall have no other gods before me.”

Just as you are more concerned with the behavior of your own children than you are with the behavior of someone else’s, understand that God is more concerned with the sins of His people than He is with the sins of the world.

So, if you consider yourself a Christian, yet you are more concerned with making the case for your preferred political party than you are with making the case for Jesus Christ, you need to honestly examine yourself to see if you are guilty of worshipping and promoting a false god.

If so, turn off the tv, step away from the conspiracy theories on the Internet, and return to The Lord. As Paul writes: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord…”

“… and all the people of Israel mourned (over their sin) and sought after the Lord.
Then Samuel spoke to all the people of Israel, saying, “If you return to the Lord with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the Lord and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” So the sons of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth and served the Lord alone.”
